Twelve-year-old Georgie lies to social workers that she’s living with her uncle “Winston Churchill.” But she’s actually on her own following the recent loss of her mother.
She steals and boosts bikes to make ends meet, while quietly dealing with her grief. And then a man jumps over the fence and into her life. He claims he’s her father and, although he sometimes doesn’t seem as mature as his daughter, he makes every attempt to click with her.
This is the story of “Scrapper,” an uplifting British comedy-drama that won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Film at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
The Sun Valley Film Festival will show it at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at The Argyros in Ketchum as part of its monthly film series. The debut film of director Charlotte Regan, it stars Harris Dickinson and Lola Campbell.
The Film Festival’s July film “Jules” was a genuinely funny feel-good movie about three seniors who befriend an alien who crashes in the backyard. And this film promises more of the same—"a dreamy witty and unmissable tale of family and fresh starts…that believes life’s not so much about chasing rainbows but snatching fistfuls in both hands.”
Tickets are $20, available at https://sunvalleyfilmfestival.org/events/scrapper/.
