Traffic Light Installation to Cause Traffic Delays
Residents of Starweather and the Heatherlands will finally get the traffic signal they have asked for so many years.
Saturday, September 2, 2023

Expect traffic delays on Highway 75 beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5, as crews install a new traffic signal at Ohio Gulch Road.

Crews will first prepare the site for signal pole installation, doing the majority of work underground. They will then build the signal by placing the poles and mast arms.

During construction traffic will be reduced to a single lane intermittently as each corner of the intersection is worked on. Motorists should prepare for delays and slow down for workers and heavy equipment.

“It’s been a long journey to get here, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we start construction and take the needed time to ensure crews work safely while they complete the project,” said District Engineer Jesse Barrus.

The signal is expected to be operational by January.

The Ketchum City Council is being asked to approve $413,686 that would allow electricity lines to buried along Highway 75 as motorists approach Ketchum from the south. The Ketchum urban Renewal Agency has already agreed to fund more than half f the cost of $900,000.

Burying electricity lines is increasingly being seen as good practice to mitigate the risk of wildfire in America’s West. It also protects the scenic corridor.
