STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAREN BOSSICK
Judith Peak scours white sales looking for the perfect sheets—not for sleeping in but for turning into goblins.
They and rubber hands will take their place among other dangling body parts when Peak and her husband Gary Peak trot out their Haunted Garden in Bellevue Monday and Tuesday.
Those who dare can tour the spooky haunt at 311 South 2nd Street across from the Bellevue Library from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 30-31.
Peak started turning her purple home into a Halloween spectacle years ago when her children were young. She has created a mazelike path through her yard, garden, patio, garage, greenhouse and even the butcher shop where Gary prepares hunters’ deer and elk.
One year she created a spectacle of spooky New Orleans with moss-covered mansions. Another year she centered her theme around the detective game Clue. This year’s theme is Medieval Magic.
Donations offered by tourgoers go to the Bellevue Library of which Peak is president. She has raised more than $500 for the library over the years.
“I like decorating for Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday as far as decorating goes,” she says.
The Haunted Garden is one of a myriad of tricks and treats taking place in the Wood River Valley over the next few days beginning with the Sun Valley Film Festival’s showing of the new horror flick “Late Night with the Devil” and running through the always popular Halloween Hoopla on Halloween.
The lineup:
FRIDAY, Oct. 27
8 p.m. “Late Night with the Devil” will screen at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum.
It stars David Dastmalchian, who starred in “Oppenhemer,” as a talk show host whose attempts to save his sinking show take a dark turn in a movie that blends the excitement of live TV with the darkness of exorcism movies.
Wear a costume and you could win one of several door prizes, including film festival film passes and a Yeti cooler. And those 21 and older can avail themselves of complimentary Tito’s Handmade vodka concoctions.
Tickets are $20 at the door or online at https://sunvalleyfilmfestival.org.
