Skiing is not art, and skiers are not artists. Unless, of course, skiing is art and skiers are artists?
Skiing as art, or the art of skiing, is the driving force behind “Abstract,” a new ski movie that will be shown on the eve of Sun Valley Resort’s opening day. .
“Abstract” will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. Tickets are $12 and $15, available at https://theargyros.org/calendar/abstract-a-freeski-exhibition/.
It’s for those who are not already staking out their place in line to be first on the chairlift Thanksgiving morning, of course.
The movie, co-produced by Red Bull Media House, offers freeskiers a blank canvas on which to carve their art on the vibrant streets of Japan the extra soft powdery pillows of British Columbia and in the manicured terrain parks of Switzerland and Italy.
Closer to home, there’s plenty of freestyle art to be made in the backcountry and powder of Utah by Alex Hall and other skiers.
The film is touring the world with showings in such places as China, Georgia, Japan, Austria, Belgium Bulgaria, Finland, France, Hungary, Slovakia, Norway, Spain and even the Ukraine, in addition to North America.
