One gingerbread house made of Chex had a magical tilt and frosting that looked like windblown snow. A gingerbread house made by a 13-year-old towered into the air as Ra-Pretzel’s Tower. And a Yurt of Compassion featured Oreo cookies on the roof top, which boasted coconut snow.
Gingerbread houses made by community members in Sun Valley Resort’s inaugural Community Gingerbread House Contest won $6,500 from Sun Valley Company for local nonprofits. And the resort is ready to have another go-around.
Sun Valley Resort is inviting the community to take part in its second annual Community Gingerbread House contest. The houses will be displayed from Dec. 9 through Dec. 31 at The Boiler Room and viewers will be asked to vote on their favorite.
The top three vote getters will garner donations from Sun Valley company for the beneficiaries they’ve stipulated.
Completed houses should be dropped off at the Boiler Room in Sun Valley Village by Thursday, Dec. 7.
Most components on the house must be edible. Home builders can use a cardboard structure frame and glue to serve as the skeleton but it should be covered with edible items. Electrical lighting may be added.
Entries must be freestanding and attached to a wood or heavy-weight cardboard base. The base must be concealed.
Each entry must include a title, 50- to 200-word description of the nonprofit the house was built for and the nonprofit’s website so that the public to learn more, if they wish.
Each entrant can make only one gingerbread house, but multiple houses can be made on behalf of one nonprofit.
Each viewer gets one vote. Votes will be made on cell phone. To sign up, visit https://www.sunvalley.com/events/community-gingerbread-contest/.
