The skiing world had better take note. Sun Valley’s U12 athletes are hot.
Savannah Pringle captured two first-place results at the Targhee North Series Giant Slalom, while Theron Andra took a first.
In all, the squad brought home four podium spots for the girls and seven for the boys.
The competition was the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s U12 Travel Team’s first away race of the season and it pitted them against junior ski racers from across the Intermountain Division. They competed through sunshine, fog, timing delays, crashes and lost skis. And they were rewarded with fun time in the pool and a barbecue at the finish line.
“The U12 Travel Team had so much fun this weekend at their first travel races of this season in Targhee,” said Adele Savaria, SVSEF U12 Travel Team coach. “Many athletes learned how the weather can change at a moment's notice and how to be patient at races due to various potential delays.”
The U12 Travel Team prepared for their trip out of the valley by competing in the Pastry Cup—fun races posing a variety of challenges in which they were awarded bags full of pastries at the end.
“Many thanks to their parents for providing snacks and lunch at the tent for the athletes and coaches and also carrying their coats when needed,” said Savaria. “The kids all showed how to be great teammates by cheering each other on and also taking coats down for each other. I’d call it a success all-around for the whole team!”
