Longtime Wood River Valley resident Cindy Hamlin will take armchair travelers to Greenland in a free presentation titled “Greenland—Land of Contrast and Imagination.”
The show will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Hailey Town Center West. It is the second of the Hailey Public Library’s new Wanderlust series.
Greenland, the world’s largest island is, as Hamlin notes, a country of extremes. It features sheer rock faces, gray-blue ice sheets, polar bears and muskox in an environ that highlights nature on steroids.
“Cindy’s travels in the wilds of Greenland included helicopter drop-offs, hiking to caches of food, night-long polar bear watches, gorgeous aurora borealis, and much more,” said Kristin Fletcher, the library’s education and engagement manager. “This is definitely not an urban stroll through cultural centers of an amazing country. It’s an out-of-this-world adventure!”
A future talk will take attendees along the entire length of the rugged Great Rift at nearby Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Yet another will take viewers deep into Tibet to witness the most biologically diverse temperate ecosystem on Earth, said Fletcher.
