Cheryl Strayed, the author of the New York Times bestseller “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,” will return to The Community Library at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, to discuss “the wildly human and universal experiences that connect us all.”

Strayed, whose book about her trek along the Pacific Crest Trail through California, Oregon and Washington following her mother’s death was made into an Oscar-nominated film, will share what she’s learned about the art of writing advice. Her bestselling collection of Dear Sugar columns, “Tiny Beautiful Things,” was recently adapted for an Emmy-nominated Hulu television show and as a play.

"We are thrilled to be welcoming Cheryl back to the valley after her visits here in 2020,” said  Martha Williams, the library’s director of programs and education. “Her ‘Dear Sugar’ column along with her other writings have meant so much to so many. Her writing encourages readers to bravery, and openness, and an understanding that sharing stories is healing, for those lending and receiving.”

Strayed also wrote the novel “Torch,” about a family that unravels after the mother is diagnosed with cancer at 38. Her bestselling collection “Brave Enough” brings together more than a hundred of her inspiring quotes. She also has made two hit podcasts—“Dear Sugars” and “Sugar Calling.”

Those who wish to see the program in person must register at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/11957245.  A book signing with Chapter One Bookstore will follow.

The program will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4038618 and a recording available upon request.
