The popular Sun Valley Story Tour will not happen this summer.
The free once-a-week historical tour led by Jim and Wendy Jacquet takes place aboard a Mountain Rides bus as it takes visitors past historical sites in Ketchum, such as The Elephant’s Perch.
But the road work that is forcing the closure of Sun Valley Road and Main Street prevents access to bus stops at the Visitor Information Center in Starbucks where the tour starts and at The Elephant’s Perch where it ends.
Consequently, there is no view of the Lane Mercantile Building on Sun Valley Road where tour guides discuss the sheep shipping economy and of the Ketchum Cemetery where they point out the Hemingway gravesite, said Jim Jaquet.
“In addition, the detours off Sun Valley Road and Main Street are very long with many sharp turns on narrow Ketchum sides streets,” he said. “When Wendy and I rode the blue route, these sharp turns made us somewhat dizzy—and we were in comfortable seats.”
