Help clear the Redfish Lake and Grand Mogul trails to make hiking, biking and horseback travel in the Sawtooths more accessible this year.
Every year, snow seems to bring down dozens, sometimes hundreds, of trees. And The Sawtooth Society is sponsoring a work project on June 1—National Trails Day.
Volunteers should meet at the Redfish Lake boat dock at 9:30 a.m. and take a boat across the lake where they will then begin working their way back to the lodge. Work will include cutting downed trees using crosscut saws. Workers will also cut overgrown vegetation and dig drainages with hand tools.
You’ll get your 10,000 steps in as you’ll cover about 5.5 miles on your way back to the lodge.
To RSVP, email Scotcho at stewardship@sawtoothsociety.org.
Want more? The Sawtooth Society will also be involved with the Stanley Community Cleanup, picking up litter along two sections of highway on June 12.
Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the Stanley Community Building to pick up supplies and get an assigned section of road. Someone will be on hand to director volunteers to an assignment should they show up late.
Volunteers should be prepared for two to three miles of walking.
RSVP at stewardship@sawtoothsociety.org.
Volunteers are also needed for the Jully 18 Sagebrush Soiree fundraiser, which raises funds to preserve, protect and enhance the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, parking, the auction and more for the dinner, which will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Stanley.
