For a brief time from 1889 to 1895, the town of Bellevue was the county seat of the short-lived Logan County.
Some folks still contend that Hailey stole the county seat. But Hailey could never steel the fact that the mines surrounding Bellevue were rich in silver and lead, producing more than $60 million worth in just two years leading up to the 1893 crash of the silver market.
Some of the residents of Bellevue want to celebrate the town’s history, and they’re asking you to join in as they hold a community potluck from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, as well as their own drinks and a blanket or chair.
There’ll be historical costume contests, local treasures uncovered by the Bellevue Museum, entertainment and crafts and a key ceremony.
“This is being put on by a group of volunteers in Bellevue from the Bellevue Library, Building Material Thrift Store and Mahoney’s,” said Jessica Mayne, an artist, actor and teacher. “We are trying to bring more community events to Bellevue and this is our first one of the summer.”
