Idaho Fish and Game wildlife biologists are taking reservations for three bear spray trainings that are scheduled in July and August.
The training sessions, free to the public, will be held:
July 11—Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters
July 25—Ketchum’s Warm Springs Preserve
Aug. 8—Hailey’s Community Campus
Each event starts at 6 p.m. and lasts 1.5 hours. Pre-registration is required by calling the Magic Valley Regional office at 208-324-4359.
Forty free bear spray canisters provided by the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation will be given out at each event, with one cannister given to each household. Attendees will also have the chance to win a bear-resistant Cordova Cooler provided by the foundation.
Participants should bring their own lawn chair to the SNRA and Ketchum events.
The trainings will focus on black bear and mountain lion biology and behavior. Participants will receive hands-on training using inert bear spray cannisters.
The presentations are appropriate for all ages.
