In this day of AI-generated political endorsements and—dare we say it?—fake news, how do you determine what’s real and what’s not? More importantly, how do you teach your child to be a discerning purveyor of news and to figure out a well-informed response?
Aliza Pressman will take you “Beyond the Headlines” when she holds a fireside chat-style conversation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Ketchum’s Community Library. The event, billed as “Raising Informed Citizens—A Parent’s guide to Discussing Complex News concepts (Middle East conflict, campus chaos, Chat GPT, tik Tok) with Teens and Young Adults,” is being presented by the Wood River Jewish Community and The Community Library.
Pressman is a developmental psychologist and the author of the New York Times bestselling book “The 5 Principles of Parenting: Your Essential Guide to Raising Good Humans.” Those principles are: Relationship, Reflection, Regulation, Rules and Repair. She also has an podcast “Raising Good Humans.”
Armed with degrees from Dartmouth College and Columbia University, she is the co-founding director of The Mount Sinai Parenting Center and an assistant clinical professor at the icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Perhaps most importantly for this discussion, she is the mother of two teenagers.
