The late Flat Top Sheep Rancher John Peavey will be honored as the grand marshal in Monday’s Labor Day Parade in Bellevue.

Peavey passed away earlier this summer after having served as a senator in the Idaho legislature, an advocate for the land and the water and co-founder of the Trailing of the Sheep Festival with his wife Diane.

Diane Peavey, author of “Bitterbrush Country: Living on the Edge of the Land,” and other members of the family are expected to take part in the parade.

The parade starts at noon and makes its way south down Bellevue’s Main Street. Anyone is welcome to show up and join in.

It will be followed by the free Bellevue Labor Day Celebration—a party in Bellevue Memorial Park, located at Third and Cedar streets.

The party, which runs from 1 to 6 p.m. will feature The Kim Stocking Band, Buddy DeVore & the Faded Cowboys and Tony Holiday, all of whom are known for their country music.

There’ll be bouncy houses, a toy train ride and arts and craft vendors. And there will be a plethora of foods for sale, ranging from tamales, and carnitas to hamburgers and sweet treats. There also will be a beer garden with beer, wine, margaritas and other drinks.
