What if changing the way we vote could change everything?

That’s the question the new film “Majority Rules” asks.

The film, produced by Ketchum resident Blair Hull and others, looks at how Alaskan residents voted to revolutionize their election system with ranked choice voting. The surprising results sparked new alliances and forced the candidates to take their campaigns to all the citizens of Alaska, not just those in their respective political parties.

The engaging film showed in Ketchum in July to a full house at Merlin’s Magic Lantern Cinema. Now it’s back for two showings at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, and again at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.

The film features such candidates as Lisa Murkowski, Sarah Palin and Mary Peltola. It is worth watching since Idaho voters will go to the polls in November to vote yes or no on Proposition One, a measure that would feature candidates of all parties on the primary ballot with ranked choice voting in the general election.

Documentary filmmaker AJ Schnack interviews supporters and opponents, looking at where such reforms are already in place and where they may soon be adopted.
