Stephen Sondheim fans, rejoice.
“Company” is about to hit the stage at The Spot.
The musical, which was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards following its 1970 debut, will run Wednesday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 8, at The Spot.
The Spot is offering 15 performances to ensure that all those who want to see this Stephen Sondheim musical can.
The musical, which ended up winning six Tony Awards its first time around plus a host more during revivals, was among the first musicals to deal with contemporary dating, marriage and divorce.
The book by George Furth, follows a series of comic vignettes revolving around confirmed bachelor Robert, who contemplates his unmarried state on the night of his 35th birthday with the help of his engaged and married friends. These friends explain the pro’s and con’s of taking on a spouse through a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding.
The musical won Best Musical, Best Score, Best Lyrics, and Best Book of a Musical, among its Tony Awards.
Brett Moellenberg directs the production, while R.L. Rowsey--an unabashed Sondheim fan--provides its musical direction.
Jordan Friend plays Robert. Travis Flynt and Louisa Waycott, who grew up in the Wood River Valley and now act and sing in New York and Washington, D.C., respectively, have returned to the valley to take part in “Company.” Others in the show are Tess Makena, Chris Carwithen, Jonathan Acorn, Hannah Nye, Yanna Lantz, Richard Lindenfelzer, Sara Gorby, Andrew Alburger, Mattigan Monschke and Megan Mahoney.
“Company” kicks off with Producer’s Night for patrons at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at The Spot on Lewis Street. Those who buy $100 tickets that night will be named show sponsors and treated to a pre-show party with hors d’oeuvres and beverages.
