“Beetlejuice,” a frightfully funny and campy musical about a strange, unusual teenager, will take the stage at The Spot this week.
The musical is being staged by the The Spot’s inaugural Young Co. LITE made up of 15 middle school students from Hemingway STEAM School, Sage School, Sun Valley Community School and Wood River Middle School.
The tuition-free program is a condensed version of Th Spot’s pre-professional teen program and is meant to help students find their voice and grow their confidence through exercises, techniques and games.
The play tells the story of a teenager named Lydia Deetz who has recently lost her mother. When she calls on a mischievous ghost named Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, one wacky theatrical party ensues.
The musical features music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee Eddie Perfect and book by Tony Award-nominated writers Anthony King and Scott Brown.
It’s directed by Yanna Lantz. The music director is Matthew Fiorentino; the choreographer, Megan Mahoney and the technical director, Samuel Mollner.
Performances start at 7:30 p.m. tonight—Wednesday, May 21; 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 22-23, and noon and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24.
