BY KAREN BOSSICK

Take a look at the U.S. Constitution in light of today’s political climate when constitutional scholar David Adler returns to The Community Library at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3.

Adler will explore current tensions prompted by recent executive orders and interpretations of the Constitution via a historical context. He’ll review implication for the rule of law from the current administration’s assertations of executive power, which raise threats to the separation of powers, checks and balances.

He will also address the import of the defiance of judicial orders.

Adler is an eloquent speaker with an amazing grasp of case studies, dates and other facts. He is able to breathe life into his topics in a way that keeps the audience’s attention.

He is the president of The Alturas Institute, a nonprofit organization created to promote the Constitution, gender equality and civic education. He has lectured nationally and internationally on the Constitution, president power and the Bill of Rights.

He has taught courses on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Supreme Court at the University of Idaho, Boise State University and Idaho State University. He is the author of six books, including  “The War Power in an Age of Terrorism.” And his writings have been quoted by the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Attorney General and others.

Those wishing to see the presentation in person are encouraged to RSVP at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/14587810. The program will also be livestreamed and available to watch later on the Library’s Event Archive. Registration is required to receive the Vimeo link to watch online.
