Alejandra Campoverdi, author of the memoir “First Gen,” will discuss her experiences as the first generation in her family to attend college and take part in other experiences, at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Ketchum’s Community Library.

Campoverdi will discuss identity, resilience and redefining success in America with the library’s program director Martha Williams.

Campoverdi is in Sun Valley as a Writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway House, which offers writers a chance to stay in the historic home while working on novels and plays.

“We were connected with Alejandra through the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, who brought her here last summer to speak and to meet with local high school students,” said Williams, who also is the Education Director for The Community Library. “She returned again last spring for a talk at the Hailey Public Library and now for a residency at the Hemingway House with our institution in Ketchum.

“We are thrilled to be a part of Alejandra’s deepening relationship with our community and to have her sharing her story with more people here.”

Campoverdi grew up in the Los Angeles area with her mother and grandmother, who came to the United States from Mexico. She went on to attend the University of Southern California and graduate from Harvard University where she had the opportunity to later address the Latinx graduating class of 2016.

Campoverdi will also offer a free workshop, “Memoir Writing: Sharing Your Authentic Story,” from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. RSVP for it at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/15089575.
