The Harriman Award honors those whose contributions to the Sun Valley community embody the pioneering and philanthropic spirit of Sun Valley’s founder Averell Harriman.

Previous recipients include Tim Mott, a driving force behind The Argyros Center for the Performing Arts and its predecessor, the nexStage Theatre, and Bex Wilkinson, who has championed young filmmakers through the Sun Valley Film Festival.

Also, Chris Albert, who headed a partnership between the Sun Valley Film Festival and Nat Geo in the film festival’s early years, and Greg Carr, a philanthropist who helped restore Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique following a civil war that decimated the wildlife there. Carr also has donated to many causes in the valley, including The Community Library which features a reading room named in honor of his mother.

“Scott and Carol Glenn have enriched the Sun Valley community through their artistry and commitment to service,” said Teddy Grennan, executive director of the Sun Valley Film Festival. “It is this balance of achievement and service that the Harriman Award was created to honor.”

Carol Glenn is a ceramics artist, who learned much of her craft at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in its early days when it offered week-long workshops on photography, ceramics and other disciplines.

Scott Glenn not only has starred in such films as “The Right Stuff,” but has quietly worked behind the scenes—say, when the Wood River Valley was threatened by the Castle Rock and Beaver Creek fires in 2007 and 2013.

“Their service extends beyond formal roles,” noted Candice Pate, director of the Sun Valley Film Festival. “It is reflected in the countless ways they have quietly stepped up as neighbor and community members whenever there has been a need. Together, they embody the spirit of true humanitarians.”

“Eugene the Marine” is about a former marine who fights to keep his life from unraveling as his son tries to force him out of his longtime family home and a series of gruesome murders begin targeting the people round him.

In addition to Glenn, the movie stars Annette O’Toole, star of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Virgin River” and “The Outer Limits,” and Shioli Kutsuna, who has appeared in “Deadpool 2,” “Unforgiven” and “The Outsider.”

THE GOONIES

The Sun Valley Film Festival also is partnering with Sun Valley Resort to offer a free family screening of “The Goonie” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, on the Sun Valley Pavilion Lawn.

The movie will be screened on the big screen with state-of-the-art lawn sound.

“The Goonies,” celebrating its 40th Anniversary, follows a group of teenagers who must overcome booby traps and a gang of desperate thieves as they search for hidden treasure. The film, produced by Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg, stars Sean Astin, whose mother Patty Duke made her home in Coeur d’Alene until her death.

P.S. Look for the Truffle Shuffle on the lawn.
