The Sun Valley Ski Club will start gearing up for the winter ski season with a gathering from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Wood River Museum of History + Culture, 580 Fourth St. East in Ketchum.
“The Original Ski & Social Club,” as they like to call themselves, will celebrate members past, present and future while perusing the exhibits and share a few stories.
“We’ll share easy food, light drink and answer the question, ‘How did you end up here in the Wood River Valley and the Sun Valley Ski Club?’ ” said Heidi Schernthanner, the club president.
The Sun Valley Ski Club was founded by Averell Harriman in 1936, the same year Sun Valley Resort opened. It has been a focal point of those who helped develop skiing, Olympic medalists and members of the 10th Mountain Division and those who continue to champion the sport of skiing today.
Little known fact: The club established the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation in 1966.
The club continues to offer training, racing and social events. To join the club, visit https://www.sunvalleyskiclub.com/dues-donations/.
