New York-based jazz musician Riley Mulherkar will return to The Argyros Sunday, Oct. 26.

Mulherkar has appeared at The Argyros twice before with pianoSonoma and The Westerlies, an arty brass quartet that mixes jazz, new classical and Appalachian folk that he co-founded. The Westerlies produce an annual music festival in Seattle called Westerlies Fest.

“The Argyros is one of my favorite venues in the country! I can't wait to see my Sun Valley friends and be back in the region,” he said.

Mulherkar has been called a “smart young trumpet player” by The New York Times and praised by the Wall Street Journal as a youngster to keep an eye on.

The Seattle native, who moved to New York in 2010 to study at The Juilliard School, was the 2020 recipient of Lincoln Center’s Emerging Artist Award for his work as a bandleader, composer, arranger, educator, community activist and advocate for the arts.

He has worked with such leading artists as Wynton Marsalis and Anna Deavere Smith.

Mulherkar comes to Sun Valley after a year of touring that has included stops at the Abu Dhabi Festival, Newport Jazz Festival and NYC Winter Jazz Fest. He released his debut album “Riley,” last year.

“I'm happy to say it's been getting some good momentum, with DownBeat calling it ‘one of the best debut records to come out in a long, long time’ and the Boston Globe naming it one of the Best Albums of 2024,” he said.

Sunday’s concert will feature music from the album Riley, which includes both original compositions and arrangements of old jazz standards like "Stardust" and "King Porter Stomp."

“I'll be joined by my quartet, with pianist Chris Pattishall, bassist Barry Stephenson, and drummer Jason Burger,” he added.

Tickets start at $43, available at https://www.theargyros.org/.
