‘Not So Silent Night’ to Rock Church of the Big Wood

Don’t expect Christmas carols sung by cute little cherubs in white robes Friday night. Expect the “Not So Silent Night” concert to get a little edgy, even downright loud at times.

It’ll be a “Not So Silent Night” on Friday when the Church of the Big Wood presents a concert spanning all kinds of music from a re-imagining of some traditional Christmas songs to more contemporary songs bursting with rock, gospel and the blues.

The free concert will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the church at Warm Springs and Saddle roads in Ketchum.

“It won’t be a traditional Christmas concert,” said Mark Mueller, the church’s music director. “We’ll have a few familiar songs like ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’ And we’ll have a few songs that are off the radar for most people.”

The free concert—the second annual “Not So Silent Night”--will feature a hand full of vocalists and a 10-piece band.

“We’re doing it to spread joy this Christmas season,” said Mueller. “It’ll be a celebration of Jesus that we hope will shine a fresh light on the Christmas story. And it’s going to be a great time for all ages.”
