Even this little bear that Anne Jeffery captured climbing the slopes of Cold Springs is affected by decisions that are made beyond the boundaries of Blaine County.

It might be easy if Blaine County was its own little kingdom, answerable to no one else for the choices it makes to preserve the way of life that its residents crave.

But what happens in Sun Valley and the Wood River Valley is affected by the broader social, economic and policy landscape of Idaho. Decisions made across the state affect Blaine County residents from the education schools provide to the valley’s youth to the books librarians may consider to budgetary decisions made by the legislature that affect the SNRA and local arts and nonprofit services.

Spur Community Foundation is hosting a conversation titled “Beyond Blaine” that looks at this topic on Wednesday.

The discussion will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at The Community Library in Ketchum.

Panelists will include:

Kevin Bailey, vice president of Impact and Nonprofit Center for the Idaho Community Foundation

Jenny Emery Davidson, executive director of The Community Library

Jim Foudy, superintendent of the Blaine County School District

David Pettyjohn, executive director of Idaho Humanities Council

Jared Talley, executive director of The Nature Conservancy.

The panel will be moderated by Sally Gillespie, executive director of the Spur Community foundation.
