The Argyros will turn into a slice of New Orleans on Tuesday when Sun Valley Opera and Broadway throws a Mardi Gras Party and Concert.
There’ll be New Orleans-inspired hors d’oeuvres, a Jambalaya buffet and a wine bar with a Hurricane specialty drink at this Laissez Les bon Temps Rouler.
And Cait Martin, a finalist on the popular TV show “The Voice,” will present a jazzy concert accompanied by a four-piece band with a pianist, bass player, guitarist and drummer.
Cait Martin is a soulful Indie-pop singer/songwriter from Georgia whose breakout performance of Harry Styles’ “As It Was” led her from “The Voice” to Carnegie Hall. She started singing when she was 2 and never stopped—since, she’s toured with musicals, sang with big bands and entertained on cruise ships.
Her singles include “Georgia” and “Not Ready,” and she collaborated with the hip-hop Nappy Roots on their recent single, “Floatin’ With the Wind.”
A mini-Marching Band will open the concert with “When the Saints Go Marching In,” and Martin and the band will follow that up with classic Mardi Gras songs and jazz standards.
Did we mention there’ll be a selection of masks and beads to complete the experience?
The dining experience, catered by Silver Fox Catering, runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17. The concert follows.
Bistro seating costs $225, of which $100 is a tax-deductible donation. Tier seating for the concert only costs $75. Tickets are available at https://www.sunvalleyopera.com/
The concert is part of Sun Valley Opera and Broadway’s year-long 25th Anniversary Celebration.
"When we started 25 years ago, we never would have thought that our anniversary winter concert and party would take place at a state-of-the art-performing center like The Argyros,” said Frank Martin, who co-founded the organization. “Venues we used in the past, in addition to homes, included St Thomas Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church of the Bigwood, Our Lady of the Snows, The Community School Theater, Gail Severn Gallery and Contemporary Gallery.
“For the Mardi Gras show February 17, the sound system, stage and lighting will enhance the fun evening headlined by Cait Martin. I bet all the guests will leave with a smile on their face, which was among the goals established when the organization was founded 25 years ago."
COMING UP:
Sun Valley Opera and Broadway’s next concert will be a Phantom of the Opera Gala on July 14 at The Argyros. That will feature three singers performing songs from “Phantom of the Opera,” as well as a Champagne Cocktail Hour, Seated dinner and Concert.
