A new event is coming to Dollar Mountain and it benefits breast cancer research.

Methodology will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Dollar Mountain with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Boarding for Breast Cancer.

Snowboarders are invited to attempt their fastest time during two runs on a banked slalom course built by the Sun Valley Terrain Parks team and Effective Edge Company. After the finish line, contestants have the option of showing judges their best “method” grab on a designated snow feature for a chance to deduct time off their best banked slalom.

The event name Methodology gets its name from the method grab.

Categories range from Girls 10 and under to Masters Men 50-plus.

Did we mention there’ll be a DJ, first-, second- and third-place awards for various categories and a raffle featuring prizes from Vans “Off the Wall,” Arbor Snowboards Anon Optics, Slush the Magazine, Crab Grab, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Sun Valley Resort and others?

Registration is open to anyone—ages ranged from 8 to 54 at the last event. And organizers say that anyone who can link turns on a blue intermediate run can do it.

Cost is $26.05 per person and boarders must also purchase a discounted event day lift ticket if they do not have a season pass. Helmets are required.

BT Bounds, a female-run organization that helps women feel confident when pursuing new tricks and experiences, is also offering a free-to-ride day for women who register. They will offer banked slalom tips, among other things

Methodology was started in 2017 by professional snowboarder Pat Moore with the idea of supporting various community initiatives through snowboarding. Since 2017, Methodology events have raised money for such foundations and projects as Bijou Skate Park in South Lake Tahoe, STOKED org serving underserved youth, the Caldor Fire Victims Fund and Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC).

This is its first stop in Sun Valley and Idaho and one of four this year, with the others being at Gunstock, N.H., Hilltop, Alaska, and Sierra-at-Tahoe in California.

Boarding for Breast Cancer is a 501©3 non-profit founded in 1996 to promote early detection and promote healthy active lifestyle as one of the best means of breast cancer prevention. It also provides survivor support.
