A month with Frankenstein comes to an end tonight. And The Community Library will close it out with a spooky party after library hours.

There’ll be eyeballs, creepy crawlies and other light refreshments. And community members are being invited to gather around the fireplace and share ghost stories and other scary stories in honor of the stormy night on Lake Geneva where Mary Shelley began writing her masterpiece in 1816.

The bewitching hour begins at 7 p.m. tonight—Friday, Feb. 27.

Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” was the focal point of the annual Winter Read in which the entire Wood River Valley and Stanley Basin is invited to read the same book and ponder its implications for today’s world through book discussions and special events curated by local libraries.

This year’s special events included a talk with Shelley biographer Charlotte Gordon, author of “Romantic Outlaws;” film historian Lester Friedman and a presentation by Paul Zimmerman about ethical questions relating to artificial intelligence.

“It’s been a fascinating four weeks of delving into Shelley’s life and the writing of her greatest work, how the story resonates today in surprising ways, and how the tale continues to evolve in our popular imagination as it is told and retold,” said Martha Williams, programs director for The Community Library.

Those who are up for a spooky night can register for the event at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/15650868.
