The Monday commute is about to get a little tougher for those who use Buttercup Road.

The Blaine County Road and Bridge Department will be fog sealing Buttercup Road beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29.

There’ll be partial road closures and pilot car escorts, detours and delays throughout the day.

Crews will be applying diluted liquid asphalt to the paved surface. The preventative maintenance acts like a sunscreen or raincoat for roads, able to extend the lifespan of the road by two to four years.

It fills and seals hairline cracks to prevent water from penetrating, shields the asphalt from damaging sunlight which can dry it out and reduces snowplow damage.

It takes one to three hours to seal, depending on temperature and humidity, so it doesn’t stick to vehicle tires.
