Students at Carey High School and residents of the Carey community now have access to a renovated weight room with new fitness equipment, thanks in part to a $25,000 contribution from St. Luke's FitOne.

Carey High School applied for funding to help complete the renovation of its weight room and gymnasium. In addition to benefiting students, the project includes a partnership with the Blaine County Recreation District that will make the facility available free of charge to community members during non-school hours.

The FitOne grant provided the final funding needed to purchase equipment for the weight room.

"We look for opportunities that encourage active living and remove barriers to healthy lifestyles,” said Alissa McKinley, executive director of St. Luke's FitOne. “The partnership between Carey High School and the Blaine County Recreation District means this investment will benefit students, families and community members for years to come."

Berenice Crowder, Community Outreach Coordinator at St. Luke’s Center for Community Health in Wood River, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on behalf of St. Luke's.

A gym in Carey is more than a place to exercise; it is a year-round gathering space that brings people together and promotes healthier lifestyles, said Berenice Crowder Community Outreach Coordinator at St. Luke’s Center for Community Health in Wood River.

“What makes this project especially impactful is that it will benefit not only students, but the broader community as well. During our long winter months, access to fitness equipment will provide a safe and welcoming place for residents to stay active, support their physical and mental well-being, and strengthen community connections,” she added.

St. Luke's FitOne supports projects and programs that promote active living and help children, families and communities lead healthier lives.
