BY KAREN BOSSICK

The melting snow has uncovered all kinds of treasures and trash ranging from  plastic bags to an occasional dollar bill.

The Environmental Resource Center is staging its 23rd annual Clean Sweep to collect it all before the summer tourists arrive.

The event will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6 in Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey and Bellevue.

Volunteers will be treated to complimentary breakfasts snacks and coffee, as well as a free lunch donated by KB’s after all has been picked up.

Prizes will be given for teams and individuals who pick up the most garbage, find the weirdest items or sport the best costumes. And raffle prizes will be given, as well.

New this year is a business competition. Businesses will be given a point for each member, a point for each member who is dressed up and a point for each full bag of trash picked up. Points will be tallied valley wide with the winning business announced on Wednesday, May 10.

Those cleaning up Sun Valley and Ketchum should meet at the ERC office, 4715 Washington Ave. N., in Ketchum. Hailey’s clean-up crew should gravitate towards KB’s in Hailey, 121 N. Main St. And Bellevue responders should rally at Bellevue Memorial Park between Cedar and Elm streets.

Questions? Call 208-726-4333, or email Hadley@ercsv.org.

FREE RECYCLING

Cox Communications will provide free recycling from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, May 5. Community residents may drop off small electronics, with the exception of TVs, and confidential documents for shredding at the Cox Solutions Store, 340 Lewis St., in Ketchum’s light industrial district.

Clean Sweep also kicks off Blaine County and Southern Idaho Solid Waste’s Clean Sweep Week where community members can drop off appliances, wood waste and tires at no charge from May 6 through 13 at the Ohio Gulch and Carey Transfer Stations. Questions? Call 208-788-2351.
