The importance of Idaho wetlands and what makes them unique will be the focus of a free Spring Science Series presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight—Wednesday, May 10.
The presentation, designed for adults and children, will be held at the Minnie Moore Room at the Community Campus in Hailey.
The presenter will be Zoo Idaho education curator Rachael Shearhouse. She will bring with her live animals often found around Idaho wetlands.
Zoo Idaho opened in 1932 in Pocatello. When it opened, it had two animals on display—a female rhesus monkey named Josephine and a raccoon named Pete that a 12-year-old had caught under the Portneuf River Bridge.
The zoo now features 30 exhibits with more than 140 animals native to the Intermountain West.
Shearhouse is visiting the valley to talk to elementary school students on behalf of the Environmental Resource Center.
