On Saturday night at the Campion Ice House in Hailey, the Sun Valley Suns took down the Bozeman Stingers 3-1 to sweep their two-game seasoning opening series against their Black Diamond Hockey League rivals. The Suns dominated the Stingers on Friday night 14-4.
Bozeman came out strong in game two on Saturday, determined to not let the home team run away and hide. Both teams staved off power plays in the first period, with the Suns keeping the Stingers off the scoreboard despite a two-skater advantage midway through the period.
The first period ended in a scoreless tie.
Sun Valley got on the scoreboard first at 6:13 in the second period with a goal by first-year Sun Steven Inman, assisted by Ryan Enrico and Marty Flickle. Chad Levitan scored one minute later, assisted by Mike Curry and Spencer Brendel to put the Suns up 2-0.
New Suns got in on the scoring action 9:45 seconds into the third period, as Robbie Murden scored with help from Chad O’Brien and Dylan Shanburger.
Bozeman spoiled the shutout with a goal at 18:23, but that did not diminish the strong performance by Sun goalie Matt Cooper.
The Suns are back in action next weekend—Dec. 8 and 9--at the Campion Ice House in Hailey. They’ll face the Breckenridge Bucks with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. both nights.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for kids 10 and under accompanied by a paying adult. Only cash or checks are accepted.
