What happens when four acting greats invite the cameras to tea as they discuss their careers and reminisce about their humble beginnings in the theater?
Find out when the Family of Woman Film Festival presents the cinema premiere of “Tea with the Dames” at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, during the Magic Lantern Cinema’s 29th Fall Film Festival.
Sun Valley audiences will get a sneak peak at the film one day before it premieres in major cities throughout the United States.
The film revolves around four women who have let the cameras in on friendships that go back more than half a century.
The four acting greats are.
- Eileen Atkins, a three-time Oliver Award winner, who co-created the TV drama “Upstairs, Downstairs”
- Judi Dench, who had supporting roles in such movies as “A Room with a View” before playing M in the James Bond flick “GoldenEye” and winning an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in “Shakespeare in Love”
- Joan Plowright, who won a Golden Globe award for her role in “Enchanted April,” in addition to playing in “Dennis the Menace,” “Tea with Mussolini” and “101 Dalmatians”
- Maggie Smith, who won Academy Awards for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and “California Suite.”
“Last year we shared a very powerful drama about how older women are marginalized,” said Family of Woman Film Festival Founder Peggy Goldwyn, referring to the film “Poetry.” “It was a beautiful film with a sad ending. This year we are pleased to present the premiere of a film about four older women who will never be marginalized.”
This year’s Family of Women Film Festival will move to the Magic Lantern Cinemas from the Sun Valley Opera House where it has been the past few years. The festival will be held Feb. 26 through March 3, 2019.
