Spend an evening folding origami cranes while partaking in a guided loving kindness meditation Wednesday night at the Hailey Public Library.
The library’s adult outreach specialist, Kristin Fletcher, will lead the crane folding; meditation teacher Mary Ann Chubb will lead the meditation.
The free event starts at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Hailey Public Library. Materials will be provided.
“In today’s hectic world it’s important to take time out for quiet reflective activities,” said Fletcher. “We’ll offer a lesson in folding beautiful origami cranes that participants can take home, as well as a guided loving kindness meditation.”
Cranes are a symbol of peace and happiness in many Asian countries. It’s believed folding origami cranes will bring good luck. The Japanese believe you will be granted a wish if you fold a thousand cranes.
The loving kindness meditation is a traditional Buddhist practice made popular by New York Times best-selling author and teacher Sharon Salzburg that has been incorporated into many faith and non-faith traditions.
