The Argyros Performing Arts Center is showing two new movies on a revolving free basis.
- The first is “The Way Forward,” a portrait of a musical community that brims with talent, passion and innovation.
The film--filmed around the world from Finland to Australia, Spain to Los Angeles--reimagines the concert-going experience for the digital age as it spans jazz, classical, vocal and dance.
It is presented by California’s Colburn School of Music, which sent some of its students to perform at The Argyros last year.
It will be shown at 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. today—Friday, July 24, and Sunday, July 26.
- “The Coronation,” which marks the 65th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s coronation, will be shown at 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1.
In it the Queen shares her memories of the ceremony, and that of her father, King George VI. It recounts the story of a maid of honour who nearly fainted in the Abbey and show the Queen as she reviews the Crown Jewels.
The film is presented courtesy of Anthony Geffen, who discussed it a few years ago in a presentation at The Community Library, and Atlantic Productions.
The Tierney Theater, in which the films hare being shown, has been reimagined with sofas and lounge chairs, taking it down from a possible 400 seats to 50 in order to provide social distancing. Rigorous sanitation protocols are being implemented.
Snacks and beverages will be available at The Washington Lobby & Café. And there will be live music on the patio from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
