The beauty of Hell Roaring Lake, which is tucked away in the Sawtooth Mountains between Galena Summit and Stanley, can’t help but elicit thoughts of gratitude on this Thanksgiving Day. PHOTO: Ed Northen

 In the ancient stories

 it was said

“the first seed planted

 by the creator was gratitude”

 Go walk in the woods

and see if it isn’t so

listen to the voices

of the earth.

You will hear the

the rivers melody

the Thrush’s song

all reminding us

of our origins

our role in this world

which is to lead

the procession

with a vociferous chorus

of gratitude
