One of the best things you can do for your garden is create an atmosphere that is inviting to pollinators.
It makes the flowers happy and the pollinators happy—a win-win for all.
Learn about “Pollinator Friendly Gardening” during a free Zoom presentation at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15.
The presentation, sponsored by the Hailey Public Library, will feature Manon Gaudreau and Amy Mattias of 5B Resilience Gardens. RSVP to Kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org.
“This talk will highlight the second principle of growing a resilient garden--making it pollinator friendly,” said the library’s programs and community engagement coordinator Kristin Fletcher. “Pollinators are essential to the health of both domestic and wild landscapes. Homeowners can help a lot by growing flowers for nectar and pollen, creating habitat through what’s called ‘messy gardening,’ managing pests ecologically and identifying beneficial insects.”
Gaudreau is a Master Gardener who helped establish Valley Victory Gardens. She is also the co-director of the Wood River Seed Library, a lending library housed at the Hailey library.
Mattias is program director for the Sun Valley Institute for Resilience. In that role, she launched the 5B Resilience Gardens collaboration last spring. She also serves on the Blaine County Food council and is a board member of Idaho Center for sustainable Agriculture and co-director of the Wood River Seed Library.
