The scarlet gilia, a member of the phlox family, is also known as a scarlet trumpet or skyrocket because of how its flowers look as if they’re rocketing through the air.

STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

You won’t need trail boots to get a glimpse of Jane Lundin’s favorite mountain wildflowers.

Slippers will do just fine as you tune into a virtual presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, hosted by the Wood River Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society.

Lundin, who coauthored “Idaho Mountain Wildflowers—A Photographic Compendium” with the late Scott Earle. And she is at home botanizing in the Sawtooth Mountains and the Cascades, given that she splits her time between Ketchum and Seattle.

As a school librarian, Lundin was able to pursue numerous botany classes during summers. This led to the writing of “Idaho Mountain Wildflowers,” and the laminated foldout “265 Images of Northern Rocky Mountain Wildflowers.” Lundin also has bachelor’s degrees in History and Zoology, in addition to her MLS in Library Science.

To get a link to attend the Zoom presentation, go to www.woodriverinps.wixsite.com/wrinps on the Talks page. Or, email woodriverinps@gmail.com with Virtual Trail in the subject.
