Usually, it’s mergers that make the news. But it’s the un-merger of the Sun Valley Museum of Art and Company of Fools that is the case in the Wood River Valley.
After seven years of joint programming following a merger in 2013, the museum and theater group have agreed to become separate 501c3 organizations.
Local thespians have been developing a new yet-unnamed theater company since the departure of Scott Palmer as COF’s artistic director. Melodie Taylor-Mauldin has been chosen as the group’s artistic director.
“We have a very specific and important opportunity here,” said Taylor-Mauldin. “Both organizations are sharing the good news that the arts in this valley have not only survived but have great plans to thrive and move forward. Our theatre company is anxious to get back to rehearsal and the stage, where we can once again enjoy shared theatre experiences with our community.”
SVMoA’s artistic director Kristin Poole said SVMoa is eager to offer financial support for the company as it emerges from the pandemic.
I know we are all eager to see this talented group of actors on the stage again.”
The Liberty Theater will remain closed for the time being because of restrictions placed on indoor gatherings. Instead, the group will consider outdoor venues for summer productions as so many theater companies across the country did last summer.
The Spot and St. Thomas Playhouse have already announced plans to take the stage again this summer.
