Idaho Fish and Game is seeking public comment on the construction of designated camp sites and other campground improvements at Silver Creek West and Silver Creek East.
An open house presenting the proposed site changes will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Magic Valley Regional Office, 324 South 417 East, off Highway 93 in Jerome.
Written comments may be submitted until Jan. 21 to Regional Fisheries Manager Mike Peterson at mike.peterson@idfg.idaho.gov.
Fish and Game staff are applying for an Idaho Parks and Recreation Grant to raise money for the project through their RV grant programs.
The proposal involves designated fire rings and picnic tables in a fixed number of campsites using hardened borders and crushed gravels. The goal is to reduce user conflicts while reducing the risk of fire and resource damage.
Both sites have seen an increase in camping use and the Department has received numerous complaints from local landowners and site users. Last summer the Department documented more than 70 campers, tents, vehicles and ATVs at one time at the Silver Creek East location—more than the site could handle.
Day use parking will be included at both sites.
