Hailey snowboarder Chase Josey is headed to his second Winter Olympics.
Josey has been named to the 2022 U.S. Olympic snowboarding team’s halfpipe squad , along with three-time Olympic gold medalist, Taylor Gold and Lucas Foster. Their female counterparts will be Zoe Kalapas, Chloe Kim, Maddie Mastro and Tessa Maud.
Josey placed sixth in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, with a contingent of hometown fans watching the action on a big screen set up in Ketchum Town Square on a frosty night. He placed fifth at the 2021 World Championships and sixth at the recent U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain in Colorado.
Josey is a graduate of the Sun Valley Community School and the Sun Valley Education Foundation.
Hillary Knight of Sun Valley, who competed at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics, will try to lead the U.S. Women’s Hockey team to another gold medal. Knight won gold in 2018 after winning silver in her first two Olympics.
Other Idahoans named to U.S. Olympic teams include:
- Breezy Johnson, of Victor, who will be on the women’s alpine skiing team
- The sister/brother team of Caitlin and Scott Patterson of McCall, who will be on the cross-country ski team
- Andrew Blaser of Meridian, who will represent the United States on its skeleton team.
- Kevin Bolger, a member of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team, who will be on the cross-country ski team.
The Winter Olympics will begin Feb. 4 in Beijing.
