Did you know that botulinum toxins—or, what you might know as Botox—are among the most poisonous substances known?
Learn more when forensic chemist Cat Helms presents “Pick Your Poison-Botulism!” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27. The presentation will be made via Zoom—RSVP to Kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org to view it.
Just parts per trillion of botulinum toxins can be lethal to humans, said Kristin Fletcher, the Hailey Public Library’s programs and engagement manager.
“Cat is an engaging presenter and will explore how this lethal toxin has been transformed from a deadly menace to a therapeutic agent,” she added.
This is the third “Pick Your Poison” installment presented by Helms. She has Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology from Vanderbilt University and in Forensic Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has served as a forensic toxicology laboratory manager.
She currently provides tutoring in math and science to middle and high school students through Cat Does Science.
