They call it the “Rocky Mountain Fly Highway.”

It’s a 500-mile stretch of Highway 20 that runs from Yellowstone past the Henrys Fork, Big Lost River, Silver Creek and the  Big Wood River into the Owyhees in southwestern Idaho. And it connects some of the West’s most renowned blue-ribbon trout streams as it winds its way through Idaho.

The Community Library will screen the 45-minute film “Rocky Mountain Fly Highway,” narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Tom Skeritt, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 9.

The film is considered a visual feast showcasing jagged peaks, bewitching deserts and shimmering waters.

Following the screening, Librarian Pam Parker will moderate a conversation with fly-fisherwomen Amanda Bauman, an elementary school teacher at the Sun Valley Community School who spends summers working as a fly-fishing guide, and Morgan Buckert, a bootmaker who has also worked for two decades in recreation in the Wood River Valley.

They will be joined by Susanne Connor, who once flew gliders over the valley and now guides- fly-fishing year-round, and Juliette Gutierrez, who styles hair in the morning and casts a fly on the Big Wood River just steps away from her home in Ketchum in the evening.

A display featuring memorabilia from these women, “Reel Legends: Fly-Fisherwomen of the Wood River Valley,” is currently on display in the Library’s foyer through April.

Those who wish to take part in Wednesday’s presentation in person must register in advance at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/8928221 Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination at the door.

The film and panel will also be livestreamed on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/event/1901519  and will be recorded for later viewing.
