Rothchild and Pisten Bullys Play Free Concert to Celebrate Ski Season End

The music won’t end this year when the ‘80s tribute band Casio Dreams plays its last chord at the Baldy Bash Saturday afternoon on the Warm Springs patio at Bald Mountain.

Rothchild and the Pisten Bullys will present a free flat floor dance party at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at The Argyros in Ketchum.

The free Live Like Gib Fest concert, designed to celebrate the last weekend of the ski season at Sun Valley Resort, will feature a band that has toured the world since they were kids. They cover songs from Muse, the Strokes, Sparks, Queen, King Crimson and a whole lot in between.

Brooks Wackerman, who played for Bad Religion and now plays for Avenged Sevenfood, is considered one of the best drummers in the world, according to concert organizer Luc McCann. He is joined by John Konesky, John Spiker and Mike Ray of Tenacious D.

The concert is a remembrance celebration—a sort-of big Irish wake--for the band members’ friend Gibby Greenway, who passed away four years ago in 2018. Greenway built his own house in West Ketchum after moving here from Los Angeles.

“He was one of those guys who was able to immediately immerse himself in our community after moving here.  He was a talented musician who played with all the guys who are coming to play the show at Argyros,” said McCann.

McCann started the Live like Gib Fest three years ago to honor him and create a celebration for anyone who has lost someone close to them. This year, for instance, the concert will also be dedicated to Rico Hood and Craig Campbell, who were longtime staples of the music community in the Wood River Valley.

“Ketchum is such a strong community that the community as a whole is deeply affected when we lose someone, so I figured the Live Like Gib Fest can be a great way for people to heal together in the years to come.  In my opinion, music is the best way to bring people together, and Gibby was a musician, so it felt like a music festival in his name needed to happen,” said McCann.

“The first year we had Thunderpussy play at Whiskey Jacques and Old Death Whisper play at Hot Water Inn, and it was an absolute blast.  The pandemic prevented it from happening in 2020 and 2021. As for this concert, James Tautkus of the Pisten Bullys was very close with Gibby as well as all the guys from Rothchild, which is why they are the opener for the show.”

While the show is free, McCann hopes people will feel compelled to make a donation on behalf of Cohen Veterans bioscience. The New York-based nonprofit research organization fast tracks the development of diagnostic tests and personalized therapeutics for veterans and civilians who suffer from the effects of trauma-related and other brain disorders.
