Representatives of 20 Wood River Valley businesses and organizations will turn out Wednesday morning to give attaboys to those who ride their bikes and scooters to work and school.

Yup! Bike to School and Work Day is back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Sponsors will offer nibbles and swag ranging from breakfast burritos and pancakes to energy bars at tent stations along the Wood River Trail from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 11. They will also greet bikers with raffle tickets, and bike service checks.

“We’re excited that so many of our community partners are willing to rally together again for this event,” said Kim MacPherson, director of Community Development. “It’s a blast to be out on the Wood River Trail with everyone.

Mountain Rides has hosted Bike to School & Work Day for a dozen years with the help of Blaine County Recreation District and others. The event is scheduled during National Bike Month and in tandem with statewide Safe Routes to School efforts.

Organizations taking part in the event range from the YMCA at the north end of the bike path to Ashley’s Coffee Corner in Bellevue.

Others participating include Higher Ground, PK’s Bike Shop, The Elephant’s Perch, St. Luke’s, Blaine County and Wood River Trails Coalition, Sturtevants, Zenergy, City of Hailey and Rocky Mountain Hardware, The Senior Connection, BCRD and Sun Valley Devo, Environmental Resource Center and Climate Action Coalition, Kiwanis Club and Power Engineers.

Sun Valley Resort will have a tent along the bike path running by Dollar Mountain.
