Quality of Place will be the theme of Sun Valley Economic Development’s annual Economic Summit.
The day-long event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Sun Valley Resort’s Limelight Room. It is open to business leaders, government officials and community members.
Speakers will look at the environment, challenges and opportunities for Quality of Place, newcomer businesses and investing and innovating for Quality of Place.
“Now that we are moving beyond COVID, it seems appropriate to evaluate how things have changed across our community,” said SVED Director Harry Griffith. “How has in- and out-migration changed things? How can investment and innovation improve our sense of community? What are local organizations doing to maintain economic vibrancy and mission capabilities?
“We will be examining Quality of Place in the context of balancing growth with the needs of the local community, while at the same time considering diversity, sustainability, inequality, pace of change and other issues.”
Speakers include Jaap Vos, professor of Planning and Natural Resources of the University of Idaho. He will explore changes to rural communities across Idaho and the implications for the future of the Wood River Valley. Vos has a Ph.D. in regional planning from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and a MS in Environmental Science from Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
