STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAREN BOSSICK

Keep your eyes open this weekend and you may see the Pope hobnobbing with Playboy bunnies, Hare Krishnas going bar hopping and Mary Poppins cavorting with her favorite chimney sweep.

After all, it is Halloween in the Wood River Valley.

Halloween never fails to get out both children and adults. And there are several events geared to do just that Saturday through Monday:

  • Sun Valley Resort will host a free Halloween Fall Fest from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Sun Valley Village.

Village shops will have treats for the kiddies. There’ll be a Costume Parade through the Village at 2 p.m. with prizes on the line. The Toy Store will offer face painting, while other shops offer lawn games. The Kim Stocking Band will provide live music and the resort will offer wagon rides every 30 minutes.

And there’ll be a free screening of the movie “Hotel Transylvania”—about a Dracula who operates a high-end resort going into overprotective mode when a human boy discovers the resort--will be held in the Sun Valley Opera House at 3 p.m.

P.S. If you’re a golfer, you may want to skip the Halloween hoopla to hit the links, as The White Clouds course and driving range will have their final day of operations on Sunday, Oct. 30.

* CAmpion Ice House in Hailey willl hold Halloween on Ice from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Costumes are encouraged. Admission is a canned good for the Hunger Coalition.

* The Mint in Hailey will hold a free Halloween Party at 6:30 p.m. And La Cab Sports Bar at 107 S. Main St. in Hailey will hold a Halloween Party with a DJ at 9 p.m. and costume competition at midnight.

* Ketchum’s Nightmare on Main Street will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight on Main Street, which will be closed to traffic to make way for things that go bump in the night. There’ll be music a prizes for best costumes. And Mountain Rides is extending the Blue Route bus service until 2 a.m.

* St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold its annual Pirate Eucharist and Trunk-or-Treat from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in the church parking lot on Sun Valley Road. Cars will be decorated and, in uncharacteristic pirate fashion, treats will be handed out instead of confiscated.

* The Chamber and downtown Hailey businesses will bring Halloween to a climax when they throw their doors open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, for the annual Hailey Halloween Hoopla.

Businesses with orange and black balloons will have buckets of sugar to dole out in the form of Butterfingers and other delights. And the Kiwanis Club will hold a Costume Contest at Hailey Town Square.

The costume contest is for all ages. The first group can vie at 3:30 p.m. and subsequent contests will be held at 3:45, 4, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5 and 5:15 p.m.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Blaine County Democrats are getting in the spirit of Halloween with a Reverse Trick-or-Treat.

Candidates Ron Taylor, Ned Burns and Karma Metzler Fitzgerald will be going door to door from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. talking to voters about the election, while handing out candy.

Volunteers are being asked to come dressed in costume with the best and most unique winning a prize. Following the canvas, they’ll hold a Halloween party at Democrat Party headquarters in Hailey’s Marketron Building at 101 Empty Saddle Trail.

Republican candidates for District 26 will also be canvassing the Wood River Valley trying to scare up votes on Saturday. But it’s not known whether they will have candy in hand!
