Hailey’s Hop Porter Park just got more colorful, thanks to the efforts of renowned Los Angeles muralist John Zender Estrada and two Hailey artists.
Estrada collaborated with Hailey artists Melissa Graves Brown and Poo Wright-Pulliam and some Wood River High School art students to paint a mural depicting butterflies and wildflowers on the park’s restrooms.
The project sponsored by the Hailey Arts & Historic Preservation Commission was designed to add to the vitality of the park while showcasing native wildlife and honoring Latino/Hispanic traditions with Dia de Los Muertos imagery.
“The theme of the Hailey Arts & Historic Preservation Commission this year is ‘Our Differences Make a Difference in Hailey,’ ” noted Cece Osborn, city planner for the City of Hailey.
Estrada, who is famous for painting murals of Cesar Chavez, has painted several murals in the Wood River Valley several times in the past few years.
The murals can be seen at the Hunger Coalition’s Bloom Campus in Bellevue, La Cabanita Mex and Alturas Elementary in Hailey. He also painted one for the Wood River Land Trust that celebrates its Pollinator Meadows at the Colorado Gulch Preserve.
