Bex Wilkinson has had a lifelong love affair with art that included formal art education at The Art institute of Chicago, Pitzer College in California and Sarah Lawrence College in New York. Early on she drew inspiration from Frida Khalo and the art of the German Expressionist era as she focused her subject matter on the undercurrents of society.
About 10 years ago, after raising her children, she returned to her art to work through the grief of losing her father and her husband. She began infusing her works with symbols to guide the viewer into such subjects as karma, and she began infusing other works with humor to describe the human circus revolving around such topics as the pandemic.
Meet Bex in today’s Eye on Sun Valley video, then see her and her work in person today and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, as she takes part in the free Artist Studio Tour of the Wood River Valley. Artists will open their studios to visitors from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Maps are available at the Ketchum Visitor Center, Hailey Welcome Center, Sun Valley Garden Center in Bellevue, artists’ studios and at https://artiststudiotour.com/.
