Raven stuck his nose through the fence as he watched another border collie gallop through the dried foot-tall grass in Quigley Field bent on corralling four sheep, their wool layered with dirt they’d amassed during a dry, dusty summer.
He couldn’t be bothered for an interview—no way, no how—what with his laser focus drilling down on his one passion in life. But Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick did manage to talk to a few of the handlers at last week’s Trailing of the Sheep Festival Championship Sheepdog Trials for a peek into this challenging competition.
